Latah Trail Foundation

The Latah Trail Foundation was founded in the spring of 1998 by a handful of people with a vision for safe, non-motorized transportation and recreation along the former Moscow-Arrow rail line. Now, there’s a scenic trail that winds from the Palouse Hills to the Forest Pines into beautiful Bear Creek Canyon.

The Latah Trail runs east from Moscow to Troy alongside State HWY 8. Between Moscow and a ridge just west of Eastman Acres — known locally as Buffalo Hump — the trail first runs along Paradise Creek and then crosses through the South Fork of the Palouse River. It continues on through farmland that produce wheat, lentils, and peas, and finally descends into Troy City Park along the West Fork of Little Bear Creek, part of the Potlatch River drainage. Small patches of woodlands line the whole length of the trail, with wetlands dotted here and there along the way.

Currently, a 28-mile linear trail system connects the communities in our piece of the Palouse: the Bill Chipman Trail between Pullman and Moscow, the Latah Trail from Moscow to Troy, and Paradise Path, which links Pullman to Troy through Moscow.
