Idaho Free Fishing Day

Event Website

Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) invites novice anglers of all ages — residents and nonresidents alike — to celebrate this day by fishing any open public waters in Idaho. No fishing license is required on Free Fishing Day! Free Fishing Day provides a great opportunity for novices to give fishing a try. To help beginners, Fish and Game sponsors a number of fishing events throughout the state. Fish and Game staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and help beginning anglers learn about fishing tackle, casting, fishing techniques, and fish identification. Some fishing tackle and bait will be available for people who do not have their own gear. Fish and Game would like to see everyone catch fish, so rainbow trout stocked in each location for the clinics should provide good fishing opportunities. Although fishing license requirements are suspended for this special day, all other rules remain in effect. Stay tuned for specific locations in our region.
